Most of the time, we think social media isn’t the best for our self-image. The perceptions of others can make us feel judged, or like we have to fit the mold that people create for us. But social media can also be a place to form communities around a shared experience. That’s what Alicia Hebner, aka PrincessGlitterHead, has done. Since she started posting videos of herself without her dentures, she’s garnered a massive following online. If you want to hear her story, here’s a rundown of who she is and how she got so popular.
Who is PrincessGlitterHead?
PrincessGlitterHead starts most of her videos the same way: no make-up, no extensions, grinning toothlessly at the camera. Over the course of the video, she applies lashes, cosmetics, and finally her dentures. In the end, she beams into the lens, showing off her movie-star good looks.
Alicia lost her teeth in her early twenties, after her pregnancy. “I was very young… I didn’t take the right steps to correct it,” Alicia said in an interview with Vice Asia. “I remember lying in the front yard crying about it, thinking that my husband was going to leave me.” She eventually got a set of removable dentures and has since adapted to life with the prosthetic.
When Alicia started telling her story online, she wanted to find people who were like her, and break the silence surrounding tooth loss. As she put it in one video: “We’re gonna show people how hot we look, how beautiful we look, with or without [dentures].”
How Have People Responded to Her?
When she first started posting online, Alicia got pushback. As she put it in her Vice interview: “When I first started taking my teeth out, people were like… ‘what are you doing, put them back in.’” Now, that’s all changed. PrincessGlitterHead has over three million followers on TikTok and gets support from all over the world. In the comments under each one of her posts are women just like her, sharing their stories, and thanking her for giving them the bravery to speak out.
What Can Dentures Do for You?
Alicia’s story is wonderful; her kind of community is something rare that should be cherished. However, her struggles with her oral health are by no means unique. For people who have lost teeth—at any stage of life— dentures can mean an incredible transformation. Alicia’s removable dentures are attached to implants, a procedure usually completed within one to two sessions, and that produces incredible results.
If you’ve lost teeth, you should talk to a dentist about dentures. With a well-fitted prosthetic, you too can look and feel your absolute best.
